You Know You Have a Good Doctor When...

... he calls you on a Saturday morning because he's going out of town and doesn't want to leave you in limbo.  I really like the Saturday morning consult method.  J was involved thanks to the marvel of speakerphone and we didn't have a copay or trip to the clinic.

So we're on to IVF.  He did offer to do a lap and have a round of COH with all injectables, but the thought of less than stellar stats with a decent risk of higher order multiples did not sound enticing.  I'll lake more stress and shots, but no surgery for a 50/50 shot, Alex!  He's leaning towards an antagonist protocol, but hasn't decided yet.  Anyone done one of those and have info to share?  I'm going to go ahead and start BCPs on CD3, schedule a sonohystogram and IVF class.  We are both scheduled to be out of town for part of the first week of May, so I'm hoping we can find a way to work around that.  I can't figure out when things will fall timing wise.  Anyone go out of town during an IVF cycle and not have Armageddon on their hands?

On a lighter note, we planted a vegetable garden today.  You should know that we are doing this because we have so  many extra pots laying around.  The only reason we have so many pots is because we've killed so many things.  If I can't make a baby, maybe I can at least germinate a damned squash seed.

Oh and I learned a new Korean word today!  I learned "okay."  I now know yes, thank you, okay, mom, dad, grandmother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and dogs taste good.

  1. Aw cute garden. Glad you have a bit of a plan at least! I started to learn Korean but never made it far.

    1. The consonants are funky and I have such a hard time hearing the difference! I only occasionally say "thank you" at the Korean restaurant... quietly... and under my breath. Other than that, I'm not brave enough to actually use it... especially the last one. Goofy husband.

  2. I'm like that when we visit my husband's family. Even though I know some words and phrases, I'm so uncomfortable actually trying to use them.

It sounds like you have a plan, which is good. I don't know anything about protocols, but I hope going out of town won't mess anything up too badly. It sounds like you really do have a great doctor, and I'm sure he'll take care of you guys!

  3. I had an antagonist protocol and know many ladies who have. It was definitely the best protocol for me. Good luck!

  4. I did the antagonist protocol as well and it worked well for me thus far. FET's only so I'm still waiting on my transfer. I think there is less crazy with this protcol then with the long lupron. As for traveling while doing IVF, personally I would plan to avoid travel but I respond REALLY well to stims and was quite uncomfortable during most of the injection period. Everyone is different, though, and you know your body best! Good luck!

  5. Good luck with IVF! I just finished my first round of icsi ivf and am 7wks. I'm Korean American and wondering how your inlaws are treating you. I hope they're understanding. Knowing Korean culture...it can be difficult. Good job learning Korean...I speak little Korean and never had dog soup nor do I ever plan on eating that. Though, I hear it is good. I'm too Americanized.

  6. Hi Liz! My in-laws are the kindest people ever. They don't know much, though. Their English isn't very good, so my husband has a hard time explaining and they get confused. They know we are going to a doctor, but that's about it. They tell us to "not worry" and "pray." They are also very religious so we worry about moral objections to IVF. My husband is not only the oldest son, but the last oldest son of our generation for his family. His brother is in the only other boy - his cousins are all girls. No pressure. :)

    Congrats on your pregnancy!!!!
